mini med

the week of the 12th

this week i had mini med which is a medical course for ty students to do for a week it is organised by the royal collage of surgeons Ireland. this week consisted of viewing two live surgeries, a Cesarean section and a laparoscopic removal of the gallbladder. we also had many lectures. this week consisted of two days in the rcsi and three days in Beaumont  hospital.

watching the operations was amazing as we got to ask the surgeons questions while they operated. the Cesarean was live streamed from the rotunda hospital that surgery only took five minutes from skin to baby. where as the gallbladder removal took two hours.

this week really gave me an insight into medicine and made me more determined to get into medicine then i ever was before.

i wont have a social life in fifth and sixth year especially because there is the hpat for hopefully med students top take as well as the leaving cert as you need 700 points to study medicine
  

young scientist exhibition in the rds

on Tuesday the sixth of January we attend the young scientist exhibition in the rds along with the second years in our school. this was really exciting because we had a group of ttys from our school competing this year and they did very well the got highly commended the information was brilliant and was used in a presentation by a man who is trying to get interactive whiteboards in all classes in primary schools. they did so well they had a news article wrote about them in the Irish times.

on Wednesday the seventh we had work experience and it was a new place i was in the playschool i attended all those years ago and  it was so different to the last work placement as the last one was nice and relaxing were as this one you cannot talk your eyes off the kids for a second. but  i'm  not complaining it was a hell of a lot of fun.

on Thursday  the eight we had normal classes and alot of rehearsals for the play which were performing on the 27th of January. im quiet nervous for this.

on Friday the ninth we had a talk about  mini company and it was not fun as we found out that we have to make a presentation to everyone the day of the competition which is not  going to be fun as we have to talk for three minutes, and in practice it was that bad as my group got 2 mins 45 seconds so we need to increase our time by 15 seconds which isn't that bad. also we learnt about the book let we have to do which my group still hasn't finished

fashion show

this week was the schools fashion show and it was brilliant, were all quiet tried from it though. So for the fashion show I was doing mini company and i also was doing hair and make up for a few first years. i did this on Tuesday night and Wednesday night.

On Tuesday my year head needed help to paint the stage so my class went to the celbrigde manor to paint the runway black and the back round white. that night everyone from mini companies to models to teachers had to be there at 6 pm. then we began to set up our mini companies and I began to do the girls hair and make up. at 7:15 peoples began to arrive and the show didn't start until eight. i have to say I really began to panic at the stage that i realized the girl who's hair i only started was on with in the next ten minutes but then i figured out what i could do. after this it was smooth sailing. Or so i though but of course i was wrong as the mini companies were in the garden room, which was the dressing rooms for the girls, the parents didn't really come in to see the mini companies so we only really sold to students..... I'm not compelling because we made a profit of over 60 euro.

On Wednesday I didn't a work experience placement so I was in carton house from eight o'clock helping Mrs, Leonard and Mrs. McMahon. i had to organize sheet of paper that Mrs. Leonard had to call  out back stage in order of the fashion show. then i focused on mini company and recounted the money that we made the night before to make sure we had paid everything off. after this Mrs. Leonard had to back to class so i just made sure no one went near the clothes. after school at 3:30 more of the backstage girls came and we began to do a check list to make sure all the clothes were there, they weren't we were missing two pairs of jeans which we later found. this night went fine as everyone was came I found myself calmer on Wednesday then i was on Tuesday.

mini company progress

this week we made alot of progess with are mini company we made a really nice porto type with a snow man on it with gilter all around the edge and i love it.

the best thing that happened this week happened in work experience, its ws the longest day i have had i work from 12 o'clock till 6 but i had been up and out since 8 o'clock as i was being brougth to a make up the girls at the body gallery were attended.
thats really all that happened this week. up date later.

every one that that tried looks brilliant and today at lunch we will have a parade to pick the best in the year.

also on wednesday i had work experience  and we went to a make up wholesalers and basically bought the store. 

also this week my mini-company got our letter back from mrs. barry (principle) to say she fully supported our idea of personalized phone covers.

walk in my shoes

this week is mental health week for teenage awareness, are school is allowing us to wear our own clothes and weird shoes as a boy said once 'i wish my friends could walk around in my shoes' this boy was right you should always think of others as if you are them.

we all had to pay 2 euro to be donated to mental health ireland to help prevent teenages and others around ireland to go into depression and other mental illnesses.

carglingford

On the 15 of September we were to meet up at the esso garage in  Celbridge at 7 o'clock and we were on are way to carlingford by ten minutes past seven. We had the 90 minute trip ahead of us but it was a fun 90 minutes.

When we got there we we're brought into the volleyball court and we were told the rules of the hostile, like we had lunch at around 12:40 after are first activity, then dinner was from 5~7, and we had free time from 9~11 at eleven we had to be back in are rooms, a then we split into are rooms there were 7 people in my room.

are first activity was canadian boat riding and that was really fun and we also went on the water trampoline that was so funny because once we were all up and we went to stand up we al fell into the middle including the instructor.

that night we went and did nightline, which is you hike up a hill  and then you all get into a line and walk around the forest and make sure not to lose the person in front of you or the person behind you while holding on to a rope that's telling you where to go ......... OH! and I forgot to say we were all blindfolded. we all survived this better than i though, after my group finished, we were group A, group B had to go so are group[ went all around the track and each time we saw then we scared the crap out of them.

after that we went got chipper or chinese and we stayed in our room for the night and we just played music and messed about.

the next morning all of us forgot to turn off our alarms so we were awake at 6:30 which was not wish. after getting dressed we went down to the kitchen had breakfast then went packed are bags and got ready for canoeing after this we did laser tag which was brilliant.
